LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Frank Faris, the owner of Genny’s Diner, and the creator of the Sweet Daddy burger, will spend the next year, 365 days, in home incarceration. That's the order of a judge in Louisville on Tuesday, April 27th.
Faris has been given 80 hours of work release so that he can go to his restaurant. His case will be reviewed in 30 days.
Genny's Diner sits next to the historic home on Frankfort Avenue that Faris owns and wanted to tear down.
He’s been blocked by the city from doing so, though, because the dilapidated home now violates property maintenance codes. The city wants the code violations corrected.
Earlier this year, a different judge told Faris to give the home away for free to someone who will repair it.
Faris told the judge on Tuesday that he had transferred the home to the newly-formed “Frankfort Avenue Preservation Society,” but the county attorney's office says that newly formed group is actually made up of three of Faris' friends.
The county attorney's office urged that Faris be thrown in jail on Tuesday, but the judge opted for home incarceration.
