Do you know an amazing World War II veteran?
Their local story could be part of a new exhibit at the Frazier International History Museum.
The exhibit, honoring what is called the greatest generation ever in American history, showcases "48 Local Stories that Changed the World" and is looking to add a 49th.
Mercy Academy students met World War II veterans and learned history through hands-on displays on Wednesday.
One of the veterans in attendance is a 93-year-old flight engineer. He says he’s honored to be highlighted at the museum.
Joe Gagliardi, WWII flight engineer says, "So many things happened to me in such a short time. But I don't think we're any different than people today. Americans are just a people that can overcome obstacles and get things done."
Krista Atzinger, a Mercy Academy student who was in attendance, said, “It’s kind of nerve-racking. They got shot at and it’s hard to say to them: what did you feel? I’ve never been in that experience before.”
You can submit your World War II stories to the museum by clicking here.
The 49th vet story will be randomly drawn in January.
