CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A man from New Washington, Ind. was killed Wed. morning in a car accident just a quarter of a mile away from his home where he live with his wife and children.

Jack Johnson, 28, was killed at the intersection of New Washington Bethlehem and Goss Roads when a Dodge Ram truck t-boned his Ford Escort.

“It was one of the bigger Dodge trucks with dual axles,” said Major Chuck Adams with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. “The difference in weight is very substantial compared to the Ford Escort.”

Investigators say Johnson attempted to make a left turn form Goss Road onto New Washington Bethlehem Road, but the Dodge truck collided with the Escort before Johnson could complete the turn. Adams says Johnson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car and killed immediately on the scene.

“The truck did have the right of way,” said Adams. “Traffic coming up to Goss Road, they do have to stop at the stop sign.”

Investigators do not believe alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash. They believe Johnson was not paying attention to the oncoming traffic. The driver of the truck was not injured. But, he was taken to Saint Catherine Regional Hospital for blood work to be done, which is standard procedure in Clark County after a fatal accident.
