(WHAS11) - The country is celebrating a birthday fit for a king! Elvis, that is.
The rock legend would be 75 if he were still alive.
During his time he mesmerized fans with his hip moves and sensational voice.
He also played right here in Louisville back in 1956.
It didn't take long for Elvis to catch on as a national sensation.
He played in Louisville a few times in the 1950s.
He held a concert at the Armory in November of 1956.
The Armory was packed with people, many lining up for hours before the show to get in.
The marquee showed something you didn't see often; Elvis playing not just one concert, but two in one day.
That was early in his career.
The crowds were even bigger nearly two decades later, when Elvis came to Freedom Hall.
Reporter Jim West was at the hotel, where fans had staked out Elvis.
At Freedom Hall, the crowd gathered early and that night, WHAS cameras were there as the King left his hotel and made his way to the sold out Freedom Hall.
Elvis played Freedom Hall again in 1976 the year before he died.
