LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – University of Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino owns two homes, and both of them are for sale.
Coach Pitino's Miami mansion has been on the market since September of 2008, and just last Friday, his east Louisville home was made available to the public.
Coach Pitino says there is no speculation necessary - he's staying put in Louisville.
WHAS11’s Adam Lefkoe has more on this story.
For nine years, Rick Pitino has been pacing the sidelines at University of Louisville men’s basketball games. For nine years, he's been living in a house in east Louisville.
With a contract extension through 2017, his job is secure. His mailing address, though – not so much.
Last Friday, his nearly 10,000 square foot home in east Louisville was put on the market with an asking price of more than $3 million.
But Coach Pitino says not to worry, he’s not leaving town. It’s more a case that many parents can relate to: Empty Nest.
“Joanne and I are empty nesters now and we wanted to downsize,” Coach Pitino said. “My daughter is going away to college and it's just the two of us.”
The house doesn’t have a “For Sale” sign, but U of L fans can see it in an online virtual tour.
The Miami mansion has six bedrooms, six and a half baths, and more than seven thousand square feet. The asking price for the mansion was lowered in April to $13.9 million. That means there’s more than $17 million worth of real estate on the market for Coach Pitino.
He said, though, that he and Joanne still aren’t sure where they’re going to move next.
Neither Coach Pitino's real estate agent nor his lawyer commented on this story. The University of Louisville says they have no new information on the reported contract expansion.
