(WHAS11) - The Bullitt County Health Department will target children against the h1n1 virus with 2,000 free doses of the nasal mist vaccine.
One of three free clinics will open up next week.
The first, at Bullitt Central High School. Experts tell us the attendance rate at Bullitt County schools is about 90% for nearly 13,000 students.
They think vaccinations could help boost that number.
Health officials say they've already administered more than 6,000 doses to health care workers and others at a previous clinic.
Now, it's time for kids and teens 5-19-years-old to get theirs.
"We’ll send notes home with every student. Some will qualify for this vaccination. But we don't know what the turnout will be... We'll hand what does come our way," said Lesa Bodine, District Health Coordinator.
"Right now we have 2,000 allocated for Bullitt County schools but we anticipate having more in subsequent weeks," added Dr. Swannie Jett, Bullitt Co. Public Health Director.
The Bullitt County Health Department will have 3 free H1N1 nasal mist vaccine clinics.
Tuesday, November 17 at Bullitt Central High School, followed by North Bullitt High School on December 1st and finally, Bullitt East High on December 8th. All three are from 5-8:00 p.m.
Consent forms will be available on-site.
Pregnant women and children with chronic illnesses or asthma should not attend.
Health officials plan on more free clinics for those high risk groups after December 8th.
