LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The sun is beating down on Kentuckiana, causing temperatures to soar, and while most are finding relief inside with air conditioning, people who live in the Kentucky Towers Apartments didn't have that luxury because their air conditioning was shut off most of the day.
Kendrik MacCallan says "It feels like a sauna in there. When you get in the lobby, you don't stop sweating."
Ironically, the property manager tells WHAS it's the heat that caused the air conditioning system to shut down. He says the air conditioning at Kentucky Towers runs on geothermal energy with water from the Ohio River.
The director of MSD tells us that the river temperature is in the 80's right now, abnormal for even this time of year, which is part of the reason the Kentucky Towers property manager says the air conditioning unit shut down, although it's not exactly clear which part of the system stopped working.
At the end of the day, people who live here say, they don't care what caused the problem or why, they just want their air conditioning on.
Kim Bush says "This is the hottest part of summer."
