(WHAS11) The sun is shining, and it’s starting to feel like spring. That means a lot of people are thinking about their spring cleaning projects.
For Brightside, that means the city-wide cleanup project, and they are looking for a little help. Last year, more than 6,000 people showed up to help clean up the city.
Meteorologist Jamie Martin is showing you what Brightside has planned for this year, in this week’s Project Green.
You’ve seen the signs around town; different beautification projects to help spruce things up. Now you can get involved. It’s time for the Brightside/UPS community-wide cleanup.
Cynthia Knapek, of Brightside said, “Brightside is getting ready for our community-wide cleanup, which happens on March 27. Right now, we are recruiting groups to come out. We will provide your group with bags, gloves and T-shirts for all the volunteers. So thanks to our friends at UPS, we are able to give you all of these supplies. In order to get them all organized and ready for you on March 27, we are asking that all groups register at our website, brightsideinc.org right now. We’ll have your supplies ready to be picked up March 13. So, on the morning of March 27, you’ll be able to get right out and start cleaning.”
So, just how many hours are you looking at? “Most groups go from about 8:00 a.m. to Noon. The really nice thing about doing an anti-litter initiative and doing a cleanup is that within a very short period of time you can make a really big difference,” Knapek said.
Now, besides the satisfaction of improving our community and civic pride, there is also a new bonus this year.
“This year, we are doing a partnership with Disney as part of their Give A Day, Get A Day promotion. If you volunteer for our community-wide cleanup, then you get a free pass to a Disney theme park. So hopefully, we will get lots of new volunteers to come out and participate.”
So you get exercise, improve the environment and get a Disney ticket.
