(WHAS11) - A Kentucky middle school is getting a good work out while going green.
They are bicycling and powering part of their school at the same time.
WHAS 11’s Meteorologist Ben Pine took a trip to Leitchfield, Kentucky, to find a new source of power.
Grayson County Middle School students are getting a good work out, at the same time, using their leg power, to power part of their school! The students are not only peddling the eco-bikes, they’re putting them together.
Students in the art department are even getting into the project by designing and painting the bikes.
They've found a way to harness the abundant energy of youth, and creating a new definition of re-cycling.
Currently, Grayson County Middle School has three eco-bikes but 10 more are in production.
They hope to power entire classrooms someday and possibly become a powered up place of shelter during power outages.
