LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A big environmental announcement has come from PNC Bank. PNC Bank says it will stop financing projects and providing credit to coal producers who primarily use mountaintop removal to get coal. About 50 environmental activists gathered at a Lexington PNC branch over the summer to protest the bank's alleged funding of surface mining projects.
Bank of America and Wells Fargo have also announced limited relationship with companies that use mountaintop removal.
