LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The new Nucleus Building in downtown Louisville got a little greener via its rooftop.

Volunteers from Bernheim Forest installed what's called a living roof.

The building at Third and Market will be the research and innovation headquarters for the UofL Foundation.

More than a dozen plants and flowers native to Kentucky are being planted in irrigated beds.

Bernheim says living roofs like this one promote climate-friendly design and reduce the amount of radiant and reflected heat released into the environment.
