LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – In Friday's Project Green, many people ditched their cars on Friday morning and rode their bikes to work.

May 21st is “Bike to Work Day,” part of Mayor Jerry Abramson's “Healthy Hometown” movement.

Cyclists met at several area parks early Friday to park their cars and ride their bicycles to work.

The effort reduces carbon emissions, and gives participants some exercise.

Joyce Lieberman biked to work and spoke to WHAS11 News about the experience.

“I live in the Highlands, and work downtown,” she said. “It was Bike to Work Day, so I came with a friend of mine- She lives in the Highlands. So we had a nice ride in, it was great, It didn’t rain, we rode on bike paths, it was wonderful.

If you missed out on Friday’s event, the mayor is holding his annual Memorial Day Hike and Bike event on May 31st.
