Louisville, Ky (WHAS11) - There is an oasis of green just off Broadway in Downtown Louisville.
When most people think of Brown-Forman, they think of bourbon and other libations. But they have also been green for many years.
“One of the basic principles is that you are building soil,” Brown-Forman Corporate Executive Chef Mark Williams said. “Actually growing soil. And that's the key to healthy food. We save our vegetable scraps, our coffee grounds, and make our own compose here. We add earthworms. We add organic fertilizer as needed and it's all natural.”
Most people shy away from gardening, but doing it in barrels has some big advantages.
“One of the great things about growing in a barrel is that it's not as labor intensive as a regular farm would be,” Williams said. “I really only spend about five hours a week out here once it's all set up and everything is in place.”
