1- 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
1- 6 oz. can tomato paste
1/2 onion, diced
1/2 cup fresh basil
2 garlic cloves
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
pinch of granulated sugar
Combine all the ingredients in a high-speed blender or food processor and process until ingredients are smooth. Pour the sauce in a large saucepan and cook for 30 minutes on a low simmer.
This sauce is a perfect all-purpose pizza sauce. It can be prepped ahead of time and frozen for later use as well.
1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F)
2 teaspoon honey
2 tablespoons melted Butter
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sea salt
Yellow cornmeal, for sprinkling the baking sheet
In a large bowl, combine the water, yeast, honey, and 1 tablespoon of the melted butter, stirring to combine. Let sit until the mixture is foamy, about 5 minutes.
Add 1 1/2 cups of the flour and the salt, mixing by hand until it is all incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Continue adding the flour, 1/4 cup at a time, working the dough after each addition, until the dough is smooth but still slightly sticky. You might not need all of the flour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth but still kind of sticky, 3 to 5 minutes.
Grease a large mixing bowl with remaining melted butter. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat with the oil. Cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm place, free from drafts until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
Pizza notes and tips:
You can also make this in a Kitchen Aid mixer…but it is honestly more fun to do this by hand with the kids. You may want to double this because this dinner will be a hit!
This makes 2 personal size pizzas. You want to prep the sauce and dough the day before. I always roll the dough and par bake the dough way ahead of pizza making time. Not only does it make dinner time faster, you can pile on the toppings and not worry about the dough getting all the way done.
At dinner time set out bowls of cheese, assorted meats, vegetables or whatever pizza toppings you like. Let your kids build their own pizzas and bake in a 400 F oven. They may even surprise you with some veggies they may put on their pizza!
Make a garlic butter by adding granulated garlic to melted butter. When your pizzas come out of the oven brush the crusts with the garlic butter to make them even better.
