Q: What is Great Bands Live?
A: Great Bands Live! is a competition among local bands to be named Kentuckiana’s favorite band. It’s open to local bands of all musical genres; 11 bands will perform on Great Day Live! hosted by Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners. Two of the bands will be selected by the public to perform at the KFC Yum! Center. Prizes will be awarded.
Q: How can I enter my video?
A: Fill out a Great Bands Live! entry packet, return it and a DVD, less than 10 minutes in length, containing two songs, to WHAS11 Great Bands Live by 4 p.m. on 4/13/12 – See official rules and entry form. The completed entry may also be submitted via email along with a digital photo and YouTube link(s) of the band’s performance to GreatDay@whas11.com.
Q: What needs to be on the video?
A: The video needs to contain two songs, and needs to be less than 10 minutes long. At least one song must be original. The originial song can be no longer than 5 minutes. The DVD must contain 2 songs, one original, one may be a cover.
Q: Can my video be longer than 10:00 minutes?
A: No. Videos longer than 10:00 minutes will not be accepted. For example, a video at 10 minutes and 2 seconds would not be accepted. Also, it must contain 2 songs, one original, one may be a cover.
Q: Do I have to be an expert filmmaker to enter my video?
A: No, you do not need to be an expert to enter your video.
Q: When are the semi-finalists chosen?
A: 11 semi-finalists will be chosen from the entries and will be notified by 4/20/12. Those 11 semi-finalists will be contacted by a Great Day Live! Producer and scheduled to perform on GDL!
Q: When are the performances on Great Day Live!
A: Each of the 11 semi-finalists will be scheduled to appear on Great Day Live! (9-10 a.m.) for one performance, between the dates of 4/26/12-5/10/12.
Q: How are the finalists chosen?
A: After all 11 semi-finalists perform on Great Day Live!, viewers can vote at greatdaylive.com. Voting opens at 10 a.m. on 5/11/12 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on 5/15/2012
Q: What does the winner get?
A: The two finalists will perform live on 5/18/12 and the winner will be announced. The winning band will receive a cash and prize package worth $3,000.
Q: What are the band requirements?
A: Bands must consist of three (3) or more members and all members must be at least 18 years old as of March 23, 2012. All members must not be professional musicians with a current recording contract. Members must be residents of Kentuckiana; defined as Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Orange, Perry, Scott, and Washington counties in Southern Indiana, and Adair, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Henry, Jefferson, Larue, Martion, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, Taylor, Trimble, and Washington counties in Kentucky.
