This Saturday family, friends and supporters will gather for the Chuck Olmstead Memorial Fund 5K Walk/Run at St. Leonard Church Gymnasium.  I remember that exactly one year to the day his family held his memorial service.  Chuck died from a brain aneurysm.  Now, his family wants to bring awareness to this issue.

We have all heard  people say “It can wait until tomorrow” or “I just need to lay down and I will feel better.”  Please don’t do that please seek medical attention.  Do you even know the symptoms of an aneurysm?  It’s a dilated pupil, changes in vision, eyelid drooping, weakness, numbness or paralysis of one side of the face, and pain above and behind the eye.

Do you know the symptoms of a ruptured aneurysm?  It’s an extreme severe headache that comes on suddenly, double vision, nausea or vomiting, stiffness in the neck and the loss of consciousness.  If you have any of those symptoms please don’t ignore them.  I know what you’re thinking?  How do you know it’s not something else like needing a stronger prescription in your glasses, the headache is due to stress, the nausea and vomiting maybe due to migraine.  You might be right but it’s better to be sure instead of sitting at home wondering.  I know money, and health care co-pays can be a problem.

It’s still hard to believe that Chuck is not with us.  When I think of Chuck I always smile because of the special moments we would share he was a wealth of knowledge.  I greatly appreciated the advice. Even when you didn’t want to hear it he said it anyway.  When I see his sons I have to do a double take because their mannerisms are similar.   So, as we reflect on his accomplishments, his life, how he touched so many people by helping them we will walk/run in his honor.

The Chuck Olmstead Memorial Fund and Norton Neuroscience Institute have teamed up to raise nearly $4 million dollars for a Mobile Brain Unit. This unit will travel around the community and offer free testing .  If you would like to donate you can go to www.ChuckOlmsteadfund.com or by calling 502-629-8060.
