The411 with Sherlene Shanklin:  This Thursday in Louisville there will be a special tribute to remember Aaliyah who died 10 years ago.  During the event, they will also remember Michael Jackson because his birthday would had been on August 29th.
Louisville native Smoke E. Digglera, one-third of the R&B sensation Playa is hosting the event.  Smoke worked with Aaliyah on several projects before her untimely death in 2001.  He just wanted to do something because she's really been missed as a friend and an artist.
I found one of Aaliyah's videos "Are You That Somebody" when you get to the rap part where Timbaland is performing you can see the members of Playa.
Smoke says "  People, as well as myself, have so much love for these two legends, that I wanted to pay homage to them.  I knew Aaliyah, personally.  She was like a little sister to me.  Michael was and is an "idol" to all musicians/artists.  He is the King of Pop!"
There will be performances by Antwan Bailey, Kenesha Lyric Anderson, and JD Green to name a few.  You know it would not be a tribute if Smoke did not perform.  His vocal talent is definitely a gift that needs to be shared. If you have never heard him perform this would be a good time to witness it for yourself.
A Night of Legends, a Tribute to Aaliyah and Michael Jackson will be held Thursday, August 25th at Jazzyblu, 815 W. Market Street at 8pm.  Admission to get in is $10.
