The411 with Sherlene Shanklin: I had a picture on my desk with President Barack Obama and from time to time would ask is that really President Obama? During his campaign I covered his speech in Columbus, IN. There was a huge pool of media outlets from Kentucky and Indiana. I assumed that everyone would get an opportunity to interview him but as his speech was coming to a close. A lady approached me and whispered in my ear and said when he finishes please go to the door and wait for instruction. I noticed she did not say anything to anyone but I thought she was helping me because this was my first time covering a political event.
When the speech was over, media outlets were standing around wondering what to do next. An Indiana newspaper came and stood next to me. It appeared that we were the only two approved to do an interview.
A member of the secret service and a representative for Senator Obama explained what was about to happen. They told me I had a total of five minutes to interview him.
So, they let the newspaper reporter go first and then it was my turn. Here's some of the interview that made national news.
