American Idol to kickoff 'Vote Live' during American Music Awards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – American Idol won’t debut on ABC until the spring but the show is already giving viewers a chance to send a hopeful to Hollywood ahead of its premiere.

Those who auditioned for the singing competition and didn’t quite make the cut, hosts Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will select singers to re-audition for a second chance to get in the competition.

Officials say their audition videos will air live during this year’s American Music Awards.

Viewers will then vote for their favorite singer by visiting www.americanidol.com/vote.

The singer who receives the largest number of votes will receive a golden ticket to Hollywood and will be revealed by Lionel Richie on the Nov. 20 live episode of Dancing with the Stars.

The American Music Awards air on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. on WHAS11.
