LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The piano man, Billy Joel, is coming to the KFC Yum! Center April 6. It marks the first time Joel has played the arena. The big announcement comes on the heels of the arena's successful star filled December.
It was the big reveal at the KFC Yum! Center with a pitch black center court except for a piano, then news that Billy Joel was the next big act coming to town.
"We are just thrilled he will perform for us on April 6th of this year," Dennis Petrullo, KFC Yum! Center general manager, said.
It was a deal that general manager Dennis Petrullo was thrilled worked out.
"We tried to get him before. He wasn't touring then he was out with Elton years ago. We were just thrilled to have these conversations and that he would play," Petrullo said.
It's the first time Joel will be back in Louisville in over 10 years, the first at the KFC Yum! Center.
Billy Joel is only playing a select number of cities, 10 in all and Louisville was selected as one of them. It's a deal that took three months to work out.
"And we are now working on arrangements and deals for August, September, October and November of next year. And they are all the names that everybody wants," Petrullo said.
The announcement comes on the heels of a successful December, when it hosted Keith Urban, Beyonce and Justin Timberlake all in one week.
"As beautiful as this building is, how well run, it's about selling tickets at the end of the day. If you are not selling tickets you can have the Taj Mahal. You have a beautiful building and the market supports the shows. And as long as they continue to purchase tickets and drive the revenue here, we'll have the acts coming to the city," Petrullo said.
Just how much money it's taking in because of the tour business, Petrullo won't say. But he hopes this is just the beginning.
"I'd love to get the Stones in here. That's one of my favorites. Who knows," Petrullo said.
For now all eyes on the piano man and the buzz it’s bound to generate.
Tickets go on sale Jan. 17 and will range from $77 to $119 through Ticketmaster.
