(WHAS11)- A man was floating in Lake Superior with his dog.

It’s a picture online that's getting worldwide attention.

John Unger and his adopted dog Schoep have been buddies for the last 18 years.

Now the shepherd mix has lost his sight and has arthritis.

So Unger takes his pal into the lake for a temporary relief, it takes the weight of Schoep's tired joints.

"I can only give him what I can, and he has always given me his all," says Unger.

People from around the world have been so moved by this story they have been calling Schoep's vet offering to pay for the dog's medication and treatment.
