PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- An eastern Kentucky county is raising money to honor the patriarch of one half of the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud.
Pike County Tourism Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Tony Tackett says fundraising efforts brought in more than $5,000 toward a memorial for Randolph McCoy, the patriarch of the McCoy family.
Tackett told The Appalachian News-Express (bit.ly/QDzyGZ) that the project started in June and the bureau hopes to have the monument purchased and installed within a year. The estimated cost of the project is $80,000 to $125,000.
Tackett said donations have increased since the showing of the Hatfield and McCoy miniseries on The History Channel. The donations have come from locals, visitors and members from the Hatfield and McCoy families.
