'Fast and Furious' star dies in fiery Calif. car accident

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (WHAS11) – Paul Walker, who was known for his roles in the successful Fast and the Furious films, has died.

According to reports, the star was in town doing charity work for his Reach Out Worldwide organization which was hosting a relief drive for Super Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Phillipines.

Reps for Walker say he was a passenger in a Porsche when unidentified driver lost control of the vehicle striking a tree which immediately exploded.

His reps sent out a statement via Facebook confirming his death:

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.”

Walker was also known for his roles in popular films such as Varsity Blues, Into the Blue and She’s All That.

Walker was also currently working on the latest installment of the Fast & Furious film. There's no word on how his untimely death will affect the outcome of the film.

He was 40-years-old.
