Fans gather to honor the King's grandfather, Jesse Presley

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) --  Many people have never heard of Elvis Presley's grandfather Jesse, but even less know he lived right here in Louisville. Not only did Jesse live here but he also died here and is buried just off Dixie Highway. ,

Thursday marked the 35th anniversary of Jesse's death, a moment that a small local fan club marked with a special ceremony.
Hundreds of miles from Graceland nestled off Dixie Highway, an Elvis memorial service attracted dozens of the faithful from the Blue Moon of Kentucky Elvis Fan Club and Pink Cadillac Club.

They weren’t there to remember the King, but instead to honor his grandfather Jesse whom Elvis held so dearly.  They group has been holding this vigil for Jesse Presley for  six years.

Why you may ask? Quite simply the said without Jesse there Elvis would have never existed.

“I knew that Jesse lived in Louisville and I just thought it was a shame that his grandfather was here and we didn't have a fan club," Betty Scoggins, found Blue Moon of Kentucky Fan Club, said.

Jesse's fan club has certainly grown over the years, but Elvis' memory is represented by the many T-shirts, buttons and the picture of Graceland the sits near Jesse’s grave.

“I have sunglasses on because I tear up all the time when I do this . It's very important that we keep his memory alive," Scoggins said.

They lit candles, had a moment of silence and shared stories – a family reunion of sorts.

"It's very touching you can almost feel Elvis' spirit here just like at Graceland," Blue Moon treasurer Donna Netter said.

The members of the fan club said Elvis was very close his grandfather and he often brought Jesse to concerts and would even sneak into town to visit him.
