HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) – Country singer Mindy McCready was pronounced dead at her Arkansas home after the sheriff reported she died of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

McCready was 37 and had recently been admitted to a facility to treat depression and other mental issues.

The singer had success in the ‘90s with songs such as “Guys Do It All the Time” and “Ten Thousand Angels.”

The singer made headlines after being accused of being involved in her boyfriend David Wilson’s death.

In 2011, she refused to return her 5-year-old son to his grandmother which was his legal guardian.

McCready told fans in January she was currently working on autobiography and released a short excerpt via her website:

“I haven’t had a hit in almost a decade. I’ve spent my fortune, tarnished my public view, and made myself the brunt of punch line after punch line. I’ve been beaten, sued, robbed, arrested, jailed, and evicted. But I’m still here. With a handful of people that I know and trust, a revived determination, and both middle fingers up in the air, I’m ready. I’ve been here before. I’m a fighter. I’m down, but I’ll never be out.”

McCready leaves behind two young children.

Her death is currently under investigation.
