SALMA HAYEK: EXPRESSING MEXICAN PRIDE, DESPITE REMARKS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Salma Hayek her recent comments about being Mexican were "lost in translation" -- and that she is proud to hail from Mexico. The actress put out a statement yesterday after the German edition of Vogue quoted her as saying she "hardly had any memories of what it is to be Mexican." Some criticized the comment as forsaking her heritage. But in a statement through her publicist, Hayek says she has "never denied" her background of culture. It isn't the first time Hayek has made remarks about her Mexican background that have raised eyebrows. Last year, she quipped in Spanish to a reporter that if it wasn't for her high heels, she'd still be back home "with 10 children."
