06:18 PM EST on Friday, March 10, 2006
A substitute teacher in southern Indiana is behind bars this evening charged with possessing child pornography. Police say it is a case that spans several states. Jennifer Jacobi, 32, is far from her two young children and her husband and it could be a while before she sees them again. Sergeant. Bryan Byrne with the Harrison County sheriffs office says, “It spanned from Indiana to the state of Maine where it’s gone from there I don't know its possible it could be a child porn ring.” Jacobi was arrested last month and charged with 11 counts of possessing child pornography. “What we have seen so far are stored on compact discs contained that she kept in her house beside her computer,” Byrne said. She is in the Harrison County jail in southern Indiana. Police say they were tipped off to Jacobi by authorities in Maine where they arrested someone in that state on similar charges. “They had learned evidence that they'd located originated in Harrison County,” said Byrne. Sergeant Bryne says he's never worked a case like this before. She's a mother and a wife and was even a substitute teacher for Floyd County Public Schools. News of her arrest shocked the school district. They had just learned of her charges when news of the arrest broke. The district says Jacobi had a clear background check and didn't have any problems when she worked for them. She worked at Galena and Mt. Tabor elementary schools, Highland Hills Middle School and New Albany High School, just a handful of times this year.
