“I have explained to Avery - in the years to come there’ll be more ‘good guys,’ as we call them, driving around because of the sacrifice daddy made,” said Frank Denzinger’s wife Tara.

In life, Avery’s father Frank Denzinger served and loved the Floyd County community - in death he’ll do the same through the Frank C. Denzinger memorial law enforcement scholarship at IU Southeast.

“The fact that we’re taking something positive I think that... Certainly, Frank’s legacy as much as I can keep it positive, I’m trying to,” said Tara.

Family and friends remembered frank during this celebration fundraising event.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be full time law enforcement employees in Clark, Floyd or Harrison County, and they must exemplify frank’s qualities and characteristics.

“Those are going to be some top notch qualities and characteristics officer Denzinger had,” said Sheriff Darrell Mills. “His love for public service. Frank prided himself on learning all of the new laws and statues.”

“His dedication; his caring for individuals,” said Tara. “He was loyal to his community.” To name only a few of his characteristics.

For Tara and daughter Avery - it’s another outpour of community support they’re grateful for. “It means a lot. It’s nice to know there’s a lot of faith in this community and a lot of respect.”

And for frank—his coworkers and family say the scholarship will be franks’ way of helping the public forever.

“He was always adding to law enforcement. Denzinger was a big part of our department. He’ll be remembered even after this tragedy,” said Mills.

“I think he would be proud. I think he’d be embarrassed, but he would be proud,” said Tara.

Students interested in the scholarship will have to be currently employed as a full-time law enforcement officer, corrections officer, or jail officer within Clark, Floyd or Harrison counties with at least two years experience; and must be enrolled or willing to enroll in either full or part-time studies at IU Southeast pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Preference will be given to those candidates who are civic minded and committed to making his or her community a safer place (e.g. membership in the Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus, Masons, Shop with a Cop, etc.)
