LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A local woman named Birdie Lively, wants to make sure children fighting cancer have the comfort they need at Kosair Children's Hospital.

That comfort is the warm embrace of a quilt made with love.

Lively is making another quilt for a child with cancer at Kosair Children's Hospital. This particular quilt is a Cathedral Window quilt with colors to brighten up a room.

Lively is self taught and tries to make at least one quilt a month to offer comfort during the toughest of times.

“It’s something extra to hold onto…take home with them,” Lively said.

Lively has made about 20 quilts for children at Kosair; children she never meets.

Lively was once a retail manager and says sewing now let's her bring joy to others.

In addition to the quilt Lively is currently sewing, she'll also deliver other quilts as well, cars for a little boy and Winnie the Pooh.

Lively got the idea of delivering quilts to children in the hospital because of the comfort a quilt brought her own daughter when she had open heart surgery. Her daughter dubbed it “Old Faithful” and took it everywhere.

So even though the children won't meet the woman behind the quilt, they still feel her warm embrace.
A quilt made by Lively is a quilt made with love.

Lively's daughter said her mother has always been a giver and she is so proud of her.

Lively does sell some quilts in order to fund her good deeds, you can contact her through email.
