Hold on tight we are in for a crazy weather ride!
Today we hit a high of 71, that is 22 degrees above average! Rain will develop overnight-Thursday morning becoming locally heavy at times late in the day as an Arctic front pushes into the region. Then we see the rain changing to a wintry mix of rain, sleet freezing rain and snow to accumulating snow Friday. YUCK! A little break on Saturday, but the front isn't done with us yet. It pushes north Saturday night-Sunday with Freezing Rain!
The models are starting to line up with each other, but fine tuning will still need to be done with the timing and accumulation totals as we get closer to Friday.
Rain threat lateThursday-Early Friday morning
Increasing rain Thursday, locally heavy at times late in the day and overnight. 1 to 3" of rain is possible with the heaviest rain south of the Ohio River. This could cause some local street and urban flooding.
(Time stamps are on the banners)
Note the heavy rain along and south of the Ohio River. Also Futurecast is already changing the rain to a wintry mix in our northwest IN counties.
1 to 3 inches of rain is possible Thursday-Early Friday morning.
Now on to the Snow... Winter Storm Watch is effect Thursday night-Early Saturday morning (I think the snow will be ending by Friday night)
Futurecast is trying to change the rain to a wintry mix early Friday morning, but keeping as rain south of Metro Louisville
Another wave of low pressure riding along the front increases our moisture (snow) in southern IN around 8am. Note Futurecast is trying to push the snow line south of the river (this may be a bit to soon). Wintry mix to our south and rain over our southern KY counties.
Everyone seeing snow by Friday evening. I believe the evening commute will be miserable!
Look for the snow to end between 10-11pm as the front sags south.
Metro Louisville could see 1-4" of snow with some minor ice and sleet accumulation. Heavier amounts north in Indiana and lesser to our south. I'm a little concerned that counties to the southwest of the Metro could recieve 1/4" of ice accumulation along with their snow.
Freezing Rain Saturday night-Sunday
I'm really getting concerned about the threat of freezing rain overnight Saturday-Sunday as the front makes a return visit to Kentuckiana. Ice accumulation could be around 1/4 inch. We could possible see up to 1/2" in Indiana. Very icy roads, dangerous driving conditions and maybe some local power outages on Sunday. Stay Tuned!
