Yep, we're throwing out the "S" word again this weekend! Spring begins next Thursday, but more snow chances are arriving soon.
Today and tomorrow will be spring-like in the 60s. Breezy today, and then just beautiful tomorrow - enjoy the St. Patrick's Parade Saturday!
But, it gets ugly Sunday. A low-pressure storm system will be moving out of Texas and traveling south of our area - so we'll be on the chilly side of this storm. Chilly rain will overspread the area from the southwest through the morning and afternoon. Just plan on wet conditions for most of the day. Watch the progress of this storm on our Futurecast maps below.
MAP 1: Sunday morning the rain moves with temperatures above freezing.
MAP 2: All areas above freezing Sunday afternoon with primarily rain, although a little sleet/snow may mix in north.
MAP 3: Colder air begins to drop south and precipitation is still falling. Areas north of I-64 could start seeing snow showers. Indiana will have the best chance of snow late Sunday.
MAP 4: Even more cold air is sliding south, but the wintry mix will be tapering off and turning lighter. Notice more areas are below freezing. We'll have to watch out for slick roads with lows in the 20s Sunday night into early Monday. Areas south of Louisville will just be wet with above freezing temps.
What about snow accumulations???
Well, the last three maps show where accumulations are most likely. The NAM, GFS, and EURO all trend for heavier amounts north, but do not agree on amounts. I think amounts will be fairly light with mostly above freezing temperatures, lighter precip late, and warm ground temps. Best chance of light accumulations will again be north of I-64 late Sunday, especially on elevated surfaces (grass, car, deck). However, farther north around HWY 50, from North Vernon to Seymour to Bedford, Indiana - we'll have at least the potential of some higher amounts.
Let's really hope the roads aren't too slick early Monday - we don't need anymore school delays or closings!
Basically, just stayed tuned to the forecast, it's worth watching out for late Sunday. Weather conditions change rapidly this time of year, and this forecast is subject to change.
As far as the rest of the week is concerned, your 7day forecast is at the bottom.
