Tropical Storm Chantal is the 3rd named storm of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, it's moving WNW at 26 mph. The storm could be near the Bahamas by this weekend. At this time, Chantal is not expected to become a hurricane.
Notice on the chart below, typically by this time of year there is just one named storm. The first hurricane on average occurs August 10th. So, we are a little ahead of a normal season, and it's still just the beginning of the hurricane season.
