The oppressive heat continues today with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s to near 100! The heat index will climb to around 105 this afternoon. Try and take it easy if you plan to venture outside this afternoon!
Changes are on the way! A cold front is marching this way from the west. As the cold front clashes into this hot and humid air mass, storms will fire-up. The best time frame for storms is between 4pm this afternoon and 10pm tonight. Western counties will see storms around 4 or 5; around the metro between 6 or 7; southeastern counties around 8 or 9.
The main threats with any storm are damaging winds, frequent lightning, heavy rain and hail.
It looks like most of the area could pick up between ½” to 1” of rain. Isolated spots of up to 2” are not of the question.
By tomorrow, temperatures will be back down in the upper 80s with leftover showers and storms. The weekend looks perfect with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90.
