Earth will experience its strongest geomagnetic storm in six years today. The solar flare occurred late Sunday around 11 p.m. EST. Earth experienced some of the radiation within an hour of Sunday’s solar flare.

The radiation is expected to cause only minor problems such as impacting power grids and triggering false alarms on some protective devices. Intermittent satellite navigation and low-frequency radio navigation problems may occur.

No one should worry about harmful radiation. The average person won’t be affected by it unless they’re taking a flight with a polar route.

With strong geomagnetic storms possible, high-latitude sky watchers should watching out for auroras.

Check out the image showing the eruption! The geomagnetic storm is expected to last for one day.
