Full "Honey Moon"

At 12:11 AM EDT Friday the moon becomes full and it has a sweet sounding name - "Honey Moon".  No, it is not named after the trip that newlyweds take after their wedding day!  According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, June's full moon gets its nickname from the low southern position in the sky which casts a golden honey hue.

June's full moon is also known as the "Strawberry Moon" because the Algonquin Tribe who lived in the New England region used it as a sign that ripening fruit was ready to be harvested.

Rare Full Moon

A full moon falling on Friday the 13th in any month is not a common event.  The last time it happen was 14 years ago on October 13, 2000.  The next Friday the 13th Full Moon... August 13, 2049!!!

Extremely Rare Friday the 13th "Honey Moon"

If you don't catch the Full Moon Friday morning, you will have a VERY long wait to see the next "Honey Moon" on a Friday 13th in June - 84 years!!  June, 2098!

The last time there was a Full Moon on Friday the 13th in June was in 1918!
