Let's get started with the heat! Look at the two maps below. The first one shows the highs Wednesday near 90 around Kentuckiana. Notice that heat wave all around the Midwest and Southeast. The next map shows the heat wave hanging tough through Derby Day Saturday! So, a prolonged summer-like pattern on the way. It seems all year our weather has been trending a couple months ahead of the calendar.
The next two maps show Futurecast bringing in showers and thunderstorms ahead of the cold front. Areas to the northwest, around Paoli, will need be ready for some strong storms after 6pm. Storm chances go up for Metro Louisville after 8pm. Our entire area is under a Slight Risk of Severe Storms with hail and damaging winds the main threats. The southern half of the area, south of Bullitt county, has the smallest chances of rain and storms tonight.
