If you are heading out to Churchill Downs today for the Kentucky Oaks you may have to dodge some showers/storms during the afternoon and evening.  Warm, moist and unstable air continues to pour in from the deep south.  This unstable air mass will interact with a frontal boundary during the afternoon and evening, triggering scattered showers and storms.  A few of these storms could become strong to severe.

SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has Kentuckiana in a Slight Risk for Severe Storms.  From SPC... A THREAT FOR HAIL AND ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS MAY EXIST ACROSS IL, IN AND KY DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING WHEN INSTABILITY SHOULD BE MAXIMIZED.

The timing for the strongest storms looks to be between 3 to 9pm, with the main threats being wind, hail, heavy downpours and lightning.
