From Reed to Ben today...

"Here is a blog update. I will be tracking your flight. Cheers till we meet this evening." -Reed

(Aboard Delta Airlines Enroute To New York)- Ben and I are traveling on different flights today as he is working this morning. We will meet up tonight in NYC.

I read an uplifting story last evening in Thursday’s USA Today about an 85 year old woman running the marathon Sunday. Oh yes, this is her 24th time to run the NYC Marathon. She hopes to finish in 6 hours. That is an inspiring story for all of us! I would love to see her on the course and hear the cheers as she passes.

New Yorkers turn out for this event in a BIG way and line almost the entire course. If they see your name on your running shirt they’ll cheer by name. It may not sound like a big deal, but from my Mini Marathon experience I can tell you the crowds provide a great energy boost (Thanks for the shirt Reed, -Ben).  I freely admit to a case of nerves.

The training, reading and mental conditioning started back in March. All of the butterflies will end when we cross the start line Sunday morning listening the Frank Sinatra sing New York, New York on the PA. At that point the training and the plan kick in. Don’t get caught up in the crowd and start too fast, steady pace, hit the all the water stops, take gel for fuel every 30 minutes. It is not unlike planning a long flight in SKY 11. Click the miles off and be there for the finish in Central Park. I plan to enjoy an up close and personal view of NYC and the people.

For those of you planning your first ever half marathon next Saturday in Louisville, we are all in this together whether it is 1 mile, 13 or 26! Good luck to the Storm Team’s Kristin Walls as she goes for a PR.

More from New York City.
