I am not a runner. But, I like to run. There is a big difference.
To be a runner means you run fast, eat right and well, look the part. I am none of those things. I really run so I can eat the treats I like and, for the most part, still fit in my clothes. Ok, it's not just about the eating (although, that's a big part of it). I am an intensely competitive person. Running gives me a chance to challenge myself and see if I can cross the finish line before the person next to me. This plan sometimes backfires on me when I run in smaller races and there is no one beside me as I approach the end.
I am in the process of preparing for my next half marathon. Louisville is hosting a new race on November 12th and I have signed up for this race so I will keep running. Without an upcoming race my desire to bundle up in the cold and brave the elements diminishes greatly.
While I do like seeing if I can finish the race before the person next to me, my main goal for training to this race is to slim down. I want to fit into my PK clothes and hope that this race will help me with that obstacle. My PK clothes are clothes that I could wear pre-Katherine. My beautiful daughter was born last year. So far, so good. I'm pretty close. I wore a suit the other day that I couldn't fit into last year.
Today the training schedule calls for a five mile run. I will fit that into the schedule tonight. I have it written in ink in my paper calendar. People still make fun of me for using a paper organizer but when you write it in ink you can't erase it or delete it. The appointment sticks and I will be pounding the pavement in the cold tonight. Afterward I will not treat myself to a Rice Crispy Treat. Maybe just one would be ok. Happy trails.
