The Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon turned out great! My goal for this half marathon was to break my PR, and I did! My best time before this race was 1 hour and 57 minutes, and I crossed the finish line on Saturday at 1 hour 47 minutes and 39 seconds! I couldn’t believe I beat my PR by 10 minutes!

This was the first time I ran a half marathon in the month of November. I have found that I run so much better in the cold than I do in the heat of the summer. I give some credit to that. Also, this was the first time during my training I ran 13 miles. I give a lot of credit to that. I mentally and physically prepared a week before. I got at least 8 hours of sleep every night, made sure I ate healthy foods and drank plenty of water.

I was aiming for 8 minutes and 47 seconds per mile, which would have put me at the finish line in 1 hour and 55 minutes. The first mile took me 8 minutes; the second was even faster at 7 minutes and 30 seconds. In my head I kept thinking there is no way I could keep that pace. But, as I continued, I didn’t lose steam. I found myself slowing down just a bit through Cherokee Park with the hills. During my training, I went to Cherokee Park at least once a week which helped me out with that section of the race. The rest of the course was relatively flat. It started getting a little tough at the end coming down the last stretch of the race course when the winds started picking up. But, having people on the side of the streets cheer me on gave me that extra pick me up to get me through it. Overall, I would recommend this race to anyone who is looking to run it next year!
