The David Williams - Richie Farmer gubernatorial ticket has launched with the message that "Kentucky is adrift" and that the Republican pair offer bold ideas and leadership to set the course.
In wording reminiscent of the Obama campaign, a web video of the campaign says, ""Many have given up hope, it's time for change in Frankfort."
"Government is out of control at every level," says Senate President David Williams in the video, adding it's time to "take the government back."
In what appears to be an acknowledgement of Williams confrontational role as Senate leader, the announcer explains Williams "doesn't go along to get along."
Williams, described as "the man in the arena" who has worked to shrink government, says he wants to change the culture of state government to encourage a "hand up not a hand out."
Meanwhile Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer is portrayed as somewhat of a reluctant candidate who "feels an obligation to give back" and is running "because of his love for Kentucky and its future."
Contrasting Williams' partisan reputation, Farmer depicts himself as apolitical.
"If I could be of a party, I would be a Kentuckian first," the Republican says.
Video of Farmer's playing days as a University of Kentucky basketball Wildcat are included in the video.
"Not every child dreams of playing basketball. Aspiring doctors, farmers, teachers that lay awake at night thinking about how to achieve their dreams. But today, with Kentucky adrift, they are left to wonder, 'Do I live in a state where my dreams can come true?
