The Kentucky horse racing industry website Paulick Report is already bemoaning the pending gubernatorial announcement of the Republican ticket of David Williams and Richie Farmer:

This is not believed to be good news for those in the racing industry who want to see expanded gaming at racetracks–something Williams has been blocking for years in his role as Senate president and de facto Republican Party boss. While Williams, from a small district in southern Kentucky, is not seen by some as a strong statewide candidate, Farmer was an extremely popular player in the basketball-starved state, first as "Mr. Basketball" while in high school and later as a member of the The Unforgettables, an overachieving team that lifted the University of Kentucky program after it was on NCAA probation. Farmer has ridden this glory to two terms as Commissioner of Agriculture where he won by landslides.
