(WHAS11) -- An anticipated expanded gambling measure is not Sen. Damon Thayer's only attempt to amend Kentucky's constitution.
Senate Bill 51, sponsored by Thayer ( R-Georgetown), was approved by the Senate State and Local Government Committee on Thursday. Thayer is committee chairman.
The amendment would abolish the State Treasurer’s Office currently occupied by Todd Hollenbach (D), who was sworn in for his second term earlier this month.
Thayer said he thinks the office was no longer necessary and that it's duties could be absorbed by the Finance Cabinet.
If approved by the Senate and House, the amendment would be placed on the November ballot.
