WTVQ-TV's Greg Stotelmyer has the raw video of Richie Farmer answering reporters' questions about his political future.  Farmer says that running for governor or secretary of state are both "certainly a possibility."

Running for governor?

Well, (I) don't know for sure yet, but that is certainly a very real possibility.

Top of ticket or running mate?

Well, there's a lot of talk about, you know, this and that and I guess the main thing that I'm concerned with doing right now is making sure that it's the right thing for my family.  You know, I've got three young boys, 13, 11 and 8 and, you know, a very beautiful wife and, you know, I think my first duty is to them.  So, (I've) got to make sure it's the right thing for us, first, and then we'll decided what we do.

Concerned about the rigors of the campaign?

Yes.  Absolutely. You know, and obviously a run for governor is a huge time commitment and something that you have to be dedicated to.  So, (I've) got to make sure that's something that would be the right thing for your family.

Considering a run for secretary of state?

Well, I mean all of those things are possibilities, but as I say, I really haven't made that decision. And, that's something that all those things are something that I'll factor into my decision making process.  But, family first.

Are you considering Secretary of State as well as governor?

Well, as I said, it's certainly a possibility.  I mean, you know, and I guess they say that it's good to have all those opportunities available.  But, we'll see what happens.

Do you have a self-imposed deadline for making a decision?

Well, I don't know exactly when, but I think by late summer early fall, we'll need to make a decision.

Get in there before 2010 election?

Different people will tell you different things.  I think there's pros and cons with both.  But those are all things that will be talked about and thought about during the process.

Who do you consider the strongest Republican that you would most want to be associated with on the ticket?

Well, again that's something that I've not gotten to you yet, but again will be part of the process and things that we'll be talking about.  But I haven't made any of those determinations.

Is geographic balance important on the ticket?

Well, I think it's important to have somebody that believes a lot of the same, has a lot of the same principles and values that you have.  And, different people will say it's important to have somebody from a different part of the state.  But, I don't think that's necessarily true.

Have you talked to other Republican leaders about your decision?

I'm like a lot of other people, I hear a lot of things. So, you just kind of go by some of the things that you're hearing, but (I) haven't really had any of the major discussions with people yet to see what people are thinking about or, you know, who's thinking of what because I hear a lot of things about myself sometimes and I wonder how it gets  out there.  So, there's obviously people who put things out there.  But, it will be interesting to see, you know, what happens in the next few months.

Has Mitch McConnell or some other GOP leader told you what to do?

No.  Nobody has really tried to instruct me on anything that I need to do at this point.

Private jobs?  Are you interested in a job with UK Athletics administration?

Well that was a, I'll tell you, I hear that a lot too and somebody once asked me, 'If the AD position came available at the U of K would I be interested, and obviously I said, 'absolutely, I would.'  You know, growing up in Kentucky and dreaming about playing there and getting to live that dream, athletics is something that's been very much a part of my life.  I have a real passion for it.  So, it would have been something I'm interested in.  But, I'm not sitting around waiting to be appinted AD of UK.  You know, we have an AD there now and things are going very well.  So, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Are you concerned about academics in UK athletics? The Bledsoe situation?

Well, obviously anytime there's something, you know, that comes up that could harm the program, or you know, cause them to be on probation, I was there and endured some of that and it's not very pleasant for players.  so, it's concerning but at this point and time we'll just have to kind of wait and see what happens.  I don't think there's anyting that we've done at this point that's concerning his transcript. So, we'll just have to see the details.
