(WHAS11) - Kentucky senator Rand Paul responded to the state of the union by proposing a $500 billion spending cut to reduce national debt.
His proposals would eliminate the departments of energy and housing and urban development and cut all international aid.
Paul also wants to cut 83 percent of the education department. Plus get rid of PBS and the FDA and cut 30 percent of the agriculture.
He says it will cut 40 percent of our projected deficit and will roll back spending to 2008 levels.
Paul wants the cuts to take place over one year.
