New poll shows GOP Senate win in KY this fall

by Joe Arnold

Posted on February 4, 2010 at 5:13 PM

A new Rasmussen Reports poll of the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Kentucky indicates that, if the general election were held today, the Senate seat being vacated by Jim Bunning will remain in Republican hands.

Either Republican frontrunner, Rand Paul or Trey Grayson, would defeat either Democrat  frontrunner, Daniel Mongiardo or Jack Conway.

Democrat Jack Conway is more competitive than Daniel Mongiardo in the head-to-head matchups, trailing Trey Grayson by only four points and Rand Paul by eight points.  Mongiardo trails both Republicans by double digits.

Meanwhile, it is increasing difficult for Trey Grayson supporters to argue that Rand Paul cannot win in the fall.

I'll break down some favorability numbers in a later post, but I wanted to get you the numbers ASAP:

Joe, you are doing a great job covering this campaign, better than any of the other news outlets in the state. Go Rand go!!

Yes, Mr. Arnold your coverage of the Senate race has been very in-depth and superb. A nice fix for us political junkies.

I'm curious as to whether Rasmussen actually asked the poll participants the specific question "some other candidate" without giving the roster of those running.....
