LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was in Louisville on Thursday night for a private fundraiser at the Anchorage estate of “Papa” John Schnatter.
Neighbors stood outside on Osage Road and tried to get a glimpse of his motorcade as it drove by around 5 p.m.
“It’s exciting! It’s fun. We didn’t really know he was coming. So, there was a lot of buzz today about his visit,” resident Annie Edwards said.
A VIP photo reception started at 6:15 p.m. for guests who paid $2,500 per person. A general reception followed at 6:45 p.m. for guests at a price of $1,000 per person.
“There were probably about 300 people there, and some actually made pizza with Papa John and Romney. So, that was pretty exciting,” guest Merry Kay Poe said.
Guests dined on pizza, Kentucky beer and wine. Schnatter introduced Romney who spoke to the crowd. Poe said his message mostly focused on the economy.
Attendance numbers indicate Romney likely raised a conservative estimate of $300,000.
