LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – Mitch McConnell's primary challenger picked up an endorsement on Tuesday.
Former gubernatorial candidate Larry Forgy, an attorney in Lexington, says he's backing Matt Bevin in next year's Senate race.
Forgy is a former member of the Republican National Committee and served as Kentucky chairman of Ronald Reagan's campaigns in 1980 and 1984.
Forgy says Bevin is the best answer to the nation's problem and says McConnell is the best example of the need for term limits.
McConnell's campaign says Forgy's support for Bevin is consistent with Forgy's efforts to protect Harry Reid's majority in the Senate.
McConnell released the following statement on Forgy backing Bevin:
"Kentucky conservatives have disagreed a lot with Mr. Forgy in recent years including his financial support for liberal Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's campaign. Larry's support for Matt Bevin is consistent with his efforts to protect Harry Reid's majority."
