(WHAS11 Political Blog) -- The first local television ad of the 2012 election cycle highlights U.S. Rep. Todd Young's military service, family and his vow to repeal "Obamacare."
The freshman Republican faces Democrat Shelli Yoder in Indiana's Ninth Congressional District race.
Two years after eeking out a three-way GOP primary and upsetting incumbent Democrat Baron Hill in the Ninth District, Young appears to have a less daunting path to re-election in 2012.
Redistricting has made the 9th District more Republican than in the past and Young has built a substantial lead in campaign cash over Yoder.
However, as a political newcomer, Yoder is a wild card. She carries no political baggage into the contest and has been very active on the campaign trail and at community events.
