A release from the campaign of Republican congressional candidate Todd Lally says the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) now terms Lally as an ‘On the Radar’ candidate, which the campaign says is "an important first step in its Young Guns program."

“The NRCC is committed to working with Todd Lally as he continues to meet the rigorous goals of the Young Guns program,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions in the Lally campaign news release. “Todd is an accomplished, independent leader who will fight to create jobs and rein in government spending. I am confident that we will be successful in our efforts to win this seat and add it to the Republican column in November.”

Insiders have described Lally's campaign as methodical, disciplined and anxious to meet the fundraising goals as proscribed by the NRCC in order to gain national party support.

Yarmuth has said that he doubts that Lally will present enough of a threat to provoke national support from either party, but that he has no doubt that national Democrats will come to his aid if he needs it.

Last week, a third candidate, Ed Martin, filed to run as a Libertarian in the race.

Lally news release:

Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has officially announced Todd Lally as an ‘On the Radar’ candidate, an important first step in its Young Guns program. Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Lally is set to unseat two-term incumbent John Yarmuth (D-KY) this fall in Kentucky’s Third Congressional District race.

The Young Guns program is designed to assist Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives achieve goals and benchmarks throughout the election cycle focused on the fundamentals of a winning campaign. By achieving ‘On the Radar’ status, Lally has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve important fundraising goals.

I am confident that we will be successful in our efforts to win this seat and add it to the Republican column in November.”

Lally’s history of public service along with his strong family and community values set him far above his fellow Third District challengers. He is a highly revered Lieutenant Colonel whose 22 years as a pilot in the Kentucky Air National Guard includes service in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. A Louisville native, Lally can be heard today on the Cox Radio station, “Voice of Thunder over Louisville,” where he has been a live commentator for the past four years. Lally is married to his high school sweetheart, Heather, and has two daughters.
Having achieved certain benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, Todd Lally now faces a new set of rigorous goals that will help him advance to the next level of the Young Guns program and help him build a competitive, effective and winning campaign.
